Curriculum vitae

Sandra Vater was born in Gotha in 1984 and attended the cooperative comprehensive school “Herzog Ernst” until graduation in 2003.

Afterwards she studied art and religious studies at the University of Erfurt and completed with the degree Baccalaureus Artium in 2009. In 2010 she started her studies at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the Department of Fine Arts. She focused on sculpture in the class of Karsten Konrad and completed her studies with the Meisterschüler degree in 2018.

During her studies she worked as a research assistant in plastic and object design at the University of Erfurt and as a tutor in the clay-workshop of the UdK Berlin. She also took internships in London at the gallery Contemporary Applied Arts (2008) and in Vienna at the state collection Albertina (2010).

She regularly participates in exhibitions. Amongst others her artwork was displayed at Goethe National Museum Weimar in 2005, Preview Berlin 2012, Westpol A.I.R. Space Leipzig 2013, Gallery Karin Wimmer Munich 2017 and Art Muc Munich 2018.

In 2011, she also created a set design and costume designs for opera productions at the Städtische Bühne Münster and a stage design at the Berlin Opera Academy in 2017.

In 2014 Sandra Vater received the Sculpture Award of the Ursula-Hanke-Förster-Stiftung and in 2018 the Recognition Award of the Helmut Thoma Stiftung at the Universität der Künste Berlin. In 2019 she was awarded with the President’s Fine Arts Award of the Universität der Künste Berlin.
